Great food, friendly service! Amazing coleslaw and sandwiches.

Wow! Loved the combo pastrami and corned beef! These sandwiches were made with a real feel for quality Chicago sandwiches! It was a real taste of the city right down to the owner's accent! John was a character, born and raised in the city and Pam was a real sweetie! Can't wait to take another road trip with my friends so I can try another sandwich

This place was recommended by a coffee shop owner nearby, and it did not disappoint! The owner was super friendly, and gave great recommendations. My husband got the Michigan Ave sandwich and I had the rueben, which were both great. The rueben had lots of meat perfectly balanced with the amount of sauerkraut

I was searching yelp for a good place for lunch when I came across this gem. State Street Deli is owned by a woman from Chicago. Being from Chicago myself, I had high expectations. Also being a frequent visitor of Chicago Jewish delis, I was excited to try the corned beef on rye and matzoball soup. Unfortunately they don't have matzoball soup at the moment but the sandwich was pretty darn good. You don't usually find Jewish deli food in Iowa, and if you have a craving for a little taste of Chicago, try the State Street Deli!

In the spirit of the old school deli, where they slice everything in front of you, have some incredible bread options and make their own potato and pasta salads, you have the state street deli! We'd heard good things about this place and we were very impressed with what we found. You're greeted with a counter full of meat and smiles when you enter and shortly thereafter the magic begins. No less than a dozen sandwich choices are at your disposal. We had the Randolph and the Michigan Ave - both of which were unreal good. The Randolph came with some incredible Rye bread and a chipotle mayo that was spicy, but gave the sandwich some incredible flavor. The Michigan was equally delicious, with peppered sourdough and just the right amount of kick from a raspberry chipotle mayo. If you were able to take a bite of an Italian opera song, it may taste like these sandwiches! Bold, flavorful, meaty, yet refined. Everything is grilled to perfection and prepped to perfection! I'll be back to try the Matzo ball soup and the corned beef on rye - Especially as tomorrow is St. Paddy's day! If you're in Mason city, come here and get a sandwich, it'll be one of the best you taste this year!

I love the sandwiches this place serves, they gave me a small side of my choice too and I had chosen a pasta salad. The pasta salad was great and I decided to order it my second visit instead of a whole sandwich, since you are allowed to just order the sides separately, but they gave it to me in the same little tin they had given it to me as my side and I'm pretty sure it cost me more than necessary. And when I say little tin, it's about the side of the containers they put dressing and sauces in. They did not warn me of this ahead of time. Oh well, I will just order sandwiches from now.

Favorite place for lunch in Mason City, the Michigan Ave sandwich is my go to every time & the potato salad is fantastic. Service is great, every time I go there I'm greeted with a smile and cheerful employees.

I got the Ruben sandwich and a pasta side. On the plus side they piled the cornbeef up high which is what I like in a sandwich but that is about all I can say on the plus side for this place. I am not sure if it was the French dressing but the sandwich was too sweet for my liking, I needed to add salt just to eat it. The VERY small helping of pasta salad was also loaded down with sugar or something that made it way too sweet for me not even salt & pepper could let me eat that side dish. I was disappointed, I was hoping the nice atmosphere was accompanied with good food but not this time. If I ever came back it would be to try the roast beef.

I'm not a local and I've only had the opportunity to eat here once. BUT I WOULD DRIVE THERE FOR THE PEPPERED SOURDOUGH ALONE! Michigan Ave was amazing. Love the atmosphere too. Please go here.

Absolutely love this place! My husband and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here and everything was so good! It is owned by a very sweet local family who have mastered the art of sandwich making. The Michigan ave is must try!
